XBOX 360 Game Review: Dead Rising

The first game I played to completition for the new XBOX 360 was Dead Rising by Capcom. This game is basically Dawn of the Dead. You are a photojournalist stuck in a Mall with a bunch of Zombies and only 72 hours to figure out what is going on and save as many people as you can.
The Good:
- Hundreds of Zombies on screen at once, its pure mayhem.
- Must be almost unlimited ways to kill the Zombies. This never ever ever gets old. Ever.
- Great atmoshphere, dark is pitch black and its hard to see the horde as it surrounds you.
The Bad:
- The save system just sucks, there is no other way to put it. There are a lot of times that you will have to play the same section multiple times to get through it even though there will be a few major sections in there. More save points or a whole new save system would have made sense.
- Getting messages about survivors and what to do, they always come in at a bad time, any other solution would have been better as you can’t do anything when taking a message.
- The survivor AI is really really lame, they just don’t want to live and I was happy to let them die if they gave me too much grief.
Overall:
I had a love/hate relationship with this game. I understand that the designers made some decisions to promote playing it multiple times. The ones with the save games I just can’t agree with. This one went back to the rental store as soon as it was finished. I still can’t make up my mind about it, either way its probaly worth a try if you are into Zombies and hacking them up.
