Why isn’t XBOX live free?
This is going to be a rant. Still reading? Okay. So I am getting an XBOX 360 soon and have noticed one thing, the thing comes with a network adapter and a limited XBOX live silver access, though if I want to play multiplayer games I have to pay a yearly subscription fee.
Now if I buy any of the other consoles, I don’t have to pay anything. I honestly think this is one of the reasons the XBOX didn’t sell so well, you have to pay for the multiplayer. Sure there is a cost involved, but with over 2 Million users at the moment, that means they are making $100 Million US a year.
From the features they have listed, I don’t think all the money is going direct to Live. At the end of the day, It is something to consider when buying the XBOX 360.
If Microsoft would move Live to a free service, I think this would have a signifigant impact on the market and help boost sales. They need to remember that they are not the number 1 player, sure the Playstation 3 isn’t off to a great start, though its still early days, and once its been out for a year then we will see who is selling the most.
It comes down to, I could talk more people into buying a XBOX 360 if they didn’t have to pay the ‘multiplayer tax’ and isn’t more people buying games etc what Microsoft are really after?
