Skyline is how you do a B SciFi Movie.

• First you have a small budget. Apprently it was only approx. $10 million approx
• Spend 95% of your budget on the special effects.
• Next blend in great Sci Fi movies such as War of the Worlds, Independence Day, Cloverfield.
• Now for the script. Lets just say it was as complicated as the plot to Transformers 2. :-)
• Season well with an end of the world plot and serve with big explosions.

Try not to watch the trailer if you can avoid it, as there aren't many tricks to this little pony.

Overall:

Awesome! Seriously was a big surprise that I enjoyed it this much. I hope they make a sequel and continue to make movies like this.
